Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to book a pre-birth breastfeeding consultation?

Ideally, anytime in your third trimester around 28 weeks and onward. But it’s never too early or too late. Whenever you feel ready to start learning, I’ll meet you there.

Is lactation consultant care reimbursed by Dutch health insurance?

Yes, but only through supplementary insurance (aanvullende verzekering). The basic health insurance does not cover lactation consultant services. Depending on your insurer and policy, you may be reimbursed between €80 and €300 per year.

To be eligible, the consultant must be IBCLC-certified and affiliated with the NVL. Some insurers may also require a referral from your GP or midwife. These costs do not count toward your deductible.

Can I still book a session if I’m not sure I’ll breastfeed?

Absolutely. This consultation is about you, whether you’re planning to breastfeed, pump, combo feed, or are still deciding. There’s no pressure,  I am here to support and provide information to help you feel confident in your choices.

What if I already took a general breastfeeding class?
That’s great! This session goes deeper it’s one-on-one and completely personalized to your body, your baby, and your specific questions or concerns.
Is this session only for first-time parents?

Not at all. Many second- or third-time parents want a fresh start, a better experience, or extra guidance  especially if they had challenges before.

Do you offer support after the baby is born?
Yes! I offer after-birth consultations, follow-up check-ins, and a pumping support package. We can schedule those after your first session, if you’d like continued support.
What if I live outside your in-home visit area?
No problem. I also offer virtual sessions that are just as personal, flexible, and supportive. All you need is a quiet space and a stable internet connection.

Need a little extra support as things change?

Breastfeeding isn’t one-size-fits-all — and as your baby grows, your needs might shift too. Whether you’re returning to work, starting to pump more often, or adjusting to new routines, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

A 30-minute check-in gives you space to ask questions, troubleshoot, and get clear, practical guidance — right when you need it most.
